The Philippine Association of Speech-Pathologists (PASP) is the sole organization dedicated to advancing Speech-Pathology in the Philippines. As a non-stock, non-profit organization, PASP promotes the discipline through education, research, and setting professional standards, ensuring the highest quality of care for clients.

What is Speech-Language Pathology?

Speech-Language Pathology is a branch of rehabilitation focused on human communication, its development, and disorders. It addresses speech, hearing, voice, fluency, swallowing difficulties, and language disorders in both children and adults.

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

In the Philippines, Speech-Language Pathologists hold a Bachelor of Science in Speech Pathology (BSSP or BSSLP) and may further pursue Master's or Doctoral degrees. While there is currently no licensure exam, PASP provides certification for qualified professionals.

  • SLPs work with individuals experiencing conditions such as:

    • Autism Spectrum Disorder

    • ADHD

    • Learning Disabilities

    • Communication Disorders

    • Intellectual Disabilities

    • Cleft Lip and Palate

    • Down Syndrome

    • Hearing Impairments

    • Stuttering and Fluency Disorders

    • Voice Disorders

    • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)

    • Neurogenic disorders from Stroke or Head Injury

  • SLPs provide their expertise in a variety of settings, including:

    • Hospitals

    • Rehabilitation Centers

    • Private Clinics

    • Research Centers

    • Government and Non-government Agencies

  • Speech-Language Pathologists serve in different roles across these settings, such as:
